I've deleted the inbox.msf file - which I've successfully done in the past - but this time, after it looks finished, I try to download new email, and I'm told I need to wait 'till the folder is rebuilt. What's going on? I've given it ample time and my messages are there.

I suppose that you have had the opportunity to reboot your computer. Did you have a lot of mail, and I assume that you deleted the file with Netscape closed. I, typically, have no more than 30-40 messages, and I recall having the same message as you had, but it was over in no time.
since the deletion should be done with Netscape closed, the folder is always rebuilt by the time I restart Netscape.

Hi there. Thanks for the advice. I use Adelphia, btw. I ended up deleting the imap msf as well as the inbox.msf and it solved the problem - I don't know why, but it did. Also, I don't have that many messages - maybe 40 - and this happens all the time in this inbox. On another profile, I have 1300 messages in my inbox, and no problems at all.

I have never heard of anything so persistent. I have some idea if it would not work at all, but this is unusual.
Try to remove the account from your account settings. You will not lose your Inbox. Then enter the same account as new. And, go to your Profile|Mail |old account, and copy the Inbox, and paste it into the newly created account, which will have same name-1.
This should be, of course, be done with Netscape closed.
If it does not work, it may be a candidate for creating a new profile.

How, exactly do I do this? Do I have to remame inbox.msf "inbox.old?

You should have a pair of files of each type, like Inbox, which contains the mail, and Inbox.msf, which is the header file. You do not want to mess with the file with no extention, since it contains all your mail, but, if you create a new profile, that's the one which should be renamed, and the Inbox.msf file can be deleted. Remember that all these things should be done from Windows Explorer, with Netscape closed. If Netscape is open, you can have all sort of problems.
Since you are familiar with the location of the files, etc. you can disregard what I said. http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/index6.html#7profile has a good number of links which should aid you. I, vaguely, remember that someone else had problems similar to yours, but I cannot find any link.

Ok, I still need an answer to #2, but I found my profiles. I can get there from explorer but not my computer for some reason. ??

The simple answer to this is that there is a file of some kind jamming up Mozilla's ability to receive from the server. You do NOT need to delete anything. To "unjam" Mozilla, simply leave Mozilla running, start up a copy of Outlook Express configured to go to the same server and read the mail with OE. After the server is cleared of email by OE, Mozilla will be able to start receiving email again -- it's like magic. Finally, import the received mail from OE into Mozilla with the Import function.
I get a "file being processed" error about once a month (I get about 1,000 emails a day, including a variety of spam) and this simple fix has worked every time.

Hi Terrie,
That is a solution which isn't an option for many of us, as many Windows 98 users have uninstall OE, or XP users have locked down IE. That is why I suggest using the webmail interface, which is much safer than using IE/OE:
