03 Aug, 2004 12:48 pm [Linux] iTunes and RealPlayer 10 |
[sdp=40481] |
|
I just checked out the new RealPlayer 10 and it seems to work pretty good.
At the Netscape site though, when I want to watch a video, I get the error that that isn't supported on a Mac. Some time before that, I got errors that it could not find the file. It used to work fine though. Have any of you guys any idea what's up with the Netscape video pages?
When I look in the source of the page and load the URL to the Real Media file manually, it plays the video without problems.
I also tried iTunes in a recent Crossover nightly. It seems work pretty well, only really slow atm on my comp (Athlon 1GHz, 512MB). I have never used it before though. It seems to be really popular though. Is this mainly because of the iPod or does it have several special features as a media player?
I was surprised that iTunes only seemed to support AAC and MP3. I download most stuff in Ogg Vorbis these days and AAC doesn't seems to be very popular at the moment. Any idea what's up with this?

You must be an Crossover advocate to get access to the nightlies. You can read more about becoming an advocate at the Codeweavers C4 page.

I just wonder how easy iTunes (for Linux) can be used for downloading songs to iPod.

AFAIK, CrossOver can't provide a driver API, only a software API. iTunes would look for a Windows driver, which it wouldn't able to find, and to the best of my knowledge there is no Linux driver for iPod. So, you would be able to use it as a music download service and a music player, but you wouldn't be able to use it with an iPod.
EDIT -> Take a look here ... It seems to say you will be able to use it in Linux when CrossOver Office 3.1 iis released.

Now that is good news. Looks like I'll soon be able to run my favourite music player on Linux! |
Off topic
Funny that MozillaZine users do not use iTunes , (except daihard and I).

mattONE in Apple Discussions reported that, | Quote: | thats with crossover office which you have to pay for. I was able to get my 3G iPod running under SuSE not too long ago using GTKpod. It took a while to get everything running smoothly, but its very possible. |
There are other projects like
Linux on iPod for you to run Linux on your iPod.

Hey you guys... I've checked with the people at CodeWeavers and they were not sure...
Has anyone tried using itunes with CrossOver Office and got it to work?
I'm particularly interested in using the airtune option to send my music remotely to the Airport Express!!
I've tried using 'JustPort'
http://nanocrew.net/blog/apple/realmusic.html
on my Debian unstable, and was not succesful
It compiles, but I can't get it to send ACC files over to the Airport.
Has anyone had good luck with this??
Peace,
Derick

Okay, I realize that this string is a little old.
But my only questions is; is that can you use your iPod with Linux running iTunes?
