An IE launcher is Netscape's destined future? OK, maybe I'll try to port AIM/ICQ to Mozilla 1.7 while I sit in disgust...

dluchini30: This was actually just a rumor. And it's not true.

The "launcher" mentioned in the November article is the Netscape Desktop Navigator, which launches whatever browser you have set as default.

The early beta versions of NDN sometimes launched IE for some links, but recent betas have this bug fixed.

That's VERY good to know.. I wouldn't stand for anything that uses MSHTML but is Netscape branded.

Hi,
Sould this be a thing that is offered to Aol subscribers only?

It doesn't use MSHTML, it's Flash-based.

The new Radio@Netscape does use MSHTML, though (and, of course, requires IE)

One thing that concerns me about Netscape 7.2 is the profile location bug that has been
present in all Netscape versions since 6.0. Will this new version setup the default user
profiles in a folder labelled "Netscape", or does it still use the "Mozilla" profile folder?

Even though Netscape browser software is no longer being developed by a dedicated
team anymore, how difficult could it be for the AOL staffers that've been working on
the upcoming new Netscape version, to squish this particularly annoying bug?

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Why in the world is Netscape using a competing technology? Another signed deal between AOL and Microsoft?

To them, it's not about the technology at all. It's about the netscape.com portal.

I thought Radio@Netscape required RealPlayer??

Also, now that there is a Netscape-branded ISP, it would be smart of AOL/Netscape to release a new version of the browser more frequently than it has been.

I thought the same.
(Never had time to listen to Radio@Netscape.)
But that might due to the agreement between Netscape and Real.

radio@netscape was, up until recently powered by Real Media servers (dating back to when it used to be Spnner, which was an AOL aquisition). However AOL have recently changed this to Nullsoft (AOL subsiduary)'s new "Ultravox" technology, which appears to use activex technologies (which only work in IE seemingly - wonder if they'll build this into NS 7.2).

Andrew Weinstein from AOL has confirmed that NS 7.2 will be released in August, however hasnt given a confirmed date (see http://www.mozillazine.org/talkback.html?article=5107 for more info).

CD's are also now available from http://www.netscapestore.com Smile
