1. I am not interested in swapping my pc for a Mac.
2. I have no idea what that is. Whoever or whatever you quoted meant that when Macs get a 30% share, they will not do so well.
Who knows who said the quoted portion?

Windows Defender Beta 2 is out. Runs well, it has a lower memory footprint and is faster than the previous beta. Runs on Windows 2000, XP and 2003 Server.

I'm certainly planning on installing Windows Defender (Beta 2) as soon as I have the time. I have found the predecessor software from MS, Microsoft AntiSpyware (Beta 1), to be a nice addition to my set of antispyware software, although it has never caught any real problems.

Remember that Windows Defender (Beta 2) requires SP2. It will not install without SP2.
Also, the un-installation of Windows AntiSpyware (Beta 1) left all sorts of junk behind in the registry. You would think that Microsoft, of all people, would clean up after itself!

I've installed Windows Defender today. So far it looks very good. The installation seemed to detect and remove AntiSpyware Beta 1 (but the folder is still present in C:\Program Files, and I presume the registry, as profman noted). Then after the installation, Defender ran, and most suprisingly, no reboot was required after the installation. When Defender loaded, it told me that it hadn't been updated 31 days, so I updated the definitions, and ran a spyware scan.
After that finished, I went around the preferences, suprisingly, everything was contained within the main Defender window. To navigate between preference options and the main program, there is a set of back and forward buttons to do this, like a web browser.
Overall, Windows Defender beta 2 seems to be a very good anti-spyware program, it loads fast, I assume due to it being loaded into memory. Just one thing I don't seem to see: That is a system tray icon, like AntiSpyware Beta 1 had.

Screenshot? Do you have anything in msconfig|startup ? I don't think that it is necessary to have an icon in the systray, but you should have a way to check what your settings are.
I tried the beta1, and, was very unimpressed. It has the potential, but it sure was not doing what I asked it to do. Since SP2 is not on my computer, no beta2. And, yes my "decrudder" got a workout after uninstalling beta1, but not too bad.

The main problem with Defender beta2 is that each time you start your computer a new system restore point is generated. I like to turn my computer off about 3 times a day so I get 3 restore points each day !!.

I am running SB S&D, which seems to work fine for me in the past few years I've been using it, and AVG free anti-virus as well. What are your guys's thoughts on AVG? Any issues or anything in that nature?

I posted, separately, about what I thought about AVG8. Something must have been changed, because it scanns a lot fast (fewer objects looked up). AVG anti-spyware is all I need. It warned me twice about two attempted hijackings. Of course, I needed to allow the firewall. But AVG was the clincher.

Yes the Free Version is fine. I bought Zone Alarm Pro and it was only good for a year.... I didn't see any difference between the free version and the Pro.
I use Free AVG and Free Zone Alarm with Spy blocker
I also use Internet Explorer and I think Disk Cleanup cleans too well.
It removes things I want to keep.....
A lot of things have disappeared from my PC.

I have to tell you, Lorraine, I never use registry cleaners. Don't trust them. My attitude has always been... if I don't have the ability to go into the registry and manually delete files (orphans, duplicates, dead-ends and so forth) that clog up my registry, then I'm sure as heck not going to trust some automated program to do the job. Besides, most MVPs will tell you point blank that you seldom speed up the operation of your computer by doing these things short of a complete reformat. If I were you... I would steer a wide berth of programs like Disk Cleanup, Reg Seeker and a whole host of others like that. No way am I going to mess my computer up with them.
