This was the forecast for today's (New Year's Day) weather:

Please note: units are in Celsius, and for those who are not familiar, °F = (°C × 1.8) + 32
I.e. 36°C (in Perth) = 96.8°F

In plain words, it is extremely hot in most cities in Australia, we don't have beautiful snow.

There are photos of Sydney's fireworks, the midnight version.
