In light of the recent poll "Your main operating system?", I thought it would be interesting to know what is the main web browser in use my SillyDog701 members today. Indeed, we have had other web browser polls in the past, but the most recent one of these polls took place nearly two years ago, and over time members' tastes change, so I believe another poll is needed to keep up with the times.

Like the "Your main operating system?" poll, this poll is about what web browser you use most often, but that may not mean your favorite or preferred web browser.

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061101 SeaMonkey/1.1b

At the moment, my top 3 browsers of choice, in order of preference are . . .

  • SeaMonkey
  • Firefox
  • Opera

Netscape might've been on that list if it's releases from the 8.x.x series weren't so ... crap!

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061101 SeaMonkey/1.1b

Mozilla = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Microsoft Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

My vote was for Firefox. I use it as my default browser about 95% of the time... Opera about 4.9% and IE7 0.1% (lol) mainly for a couple of pages that refuse to load in anything "but" IE (i.e. Charter's radio). Smile

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0

Firefox 2.0 right now; it's the only web browser save for Internet Explorer that's been compiled for Win64 that I've seen.

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2 x64; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061030 BonEcho/2.0 (mmoy CE K8N-X02)

My choice is our beloved Safari, of course.

When you refer to Safari as "our beloved", I'm curious to know who you're referring to . . .

  • Mac OS X users that have Safari set as their default browser?
  • All Mac OS X users regardless of the browser they use?
  • All members of this forum that use Mac OS X?
  • All members of this forum in general?
  • Only yourself?

For those of us that use SeaMonkey as our main browser, should we refer to it as "our beloved SeaMonkey" ... ?
Wink

IIRC, Antony made it clear to me that the "our beloved" bit applies to everyone.

How about the non-Safari Open-Source Extremists begin raving about our cherished Gecko, the rendering engine that works as flawlessly on x86 as it does in x64, PPC, and Sparc, and most likely on Alpha, Itanium, PA/RISC, MIPS, S390, m68k, ARM, and plenty more if somebody compiled them?

Edit -- Finished this just now.

Nice logo, except I don't think the mainstream Gecko users would like it due to the logo saying "Netscape Gecko".

A number of Mozilla/Firefox die-hard supporters loathe "Netscape", they failed to understand Mozilla/Firefox was burn with financial support of Netscape.

Anybody that loathes "Netscape" please say so now. Don_HH2K does not, and continues the use of Netscape 4.x where Gecko-based browsers cannot run.
