March 11th (next Sunday) will be daily savings time. That is early! What does this mean for our computers in terms of how they update? What exactly should we do to prevent problems? Thanks.

There should be an update on Windows Update that will patch your OS so it has the correct DST date.

There is, and it's been out for quite awhile. It's just not listed as a Critical Update, so you need to actually go and run Windows Update to get it (Automatic Updates won't take care of it).

Alternatively you can go download it from the Microsoft Download Center if you don't want to run Windows Update.

Actually, I got my update from Automatic Updates.

Well, I know that when I downloaded it that it was still listed as an optional update. To the best of my knowledge, Automatic Updates doesn't download those. This was sometime last year though, so things could've changed since then.

From http://support.microsoft.com/gp/dst_topissues#A5:
Quote:
All versions of Windows can be manually updated using the tzedit.exe utility or other techniques documented in Knowledge Base article 914387 and similar articles for other countries, which is the preferred method of remediation for any product outside of Mainstream Support.

This is under a Windows NT 4 heading ("unsupported").

TZEDIT.EXE worked fine on XP SP2. Fails (nothing occurs) on Windows 95 (not too surprising since the Registry has had significant changes).
