Thanks Don, that seems to have worked though computer now starts in 'selective' mode but now I've found other problems (this is a friends computer). They had let their Symantec subscription lapse so I downloaded AVG ant-virus, Spybot S&D and AdAware. I found a number of problems including WildTangent. I thought I'd gotten rid of it but now have a new message after booting saying that 'C:\Program|WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll' can't be found. I thought there might be a registry entry that was causing Windows to look for this but the registry tools I had downloaded couldn't find anything (that I recognized). Any suggestions would be welcome.
PS: Spybot also says there are the following data source object exploits --
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3, HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-4087877812-208011349-900067506-1009\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3, HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3, HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3 and HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3 . I don't recognize any of these so do not want to delete, especially as it is not my computer, until I'm sure they should NOT be there.
Thanks again
