What happened?
I made a huge mistake by following those Posting Guidelines in the MozillaChampions pages.
The guide line, (screenshot at the time of posting)
And the response I received...

I followed what Mozilla Champions listed in their Mozilla Champions page, then I got told off by one of the Mozilla Champions.
That's really ridiculous.
Who should I blame now?

Hi, Antony.
IMO, it is because of a tradition of Mac users group which is independent from "Windoze" users group.
IIRC, top posting is Mac users group's tradition from the beginning of the Netscape's secure newsgroup for Mac users, in spite of the bottom posting is a favorite of the Windows' Netscape Champions.
A username "Moz Champion" reminds me Dan Gall, who is one of the best (former) Netscape Champions I encountered, and a mac user by nature.
He can bottom post when he posts outside Mac users group, so I believe he never minds when you bottom post (without apparent notification).

It is spelled J-O-J-I, but pronounced GEORGE.

Antony,
I found the thread, and you will see that someone else came to your rescue. I, also, added a question, while bottom posting, asking if it was top or bottom. I have, pretty much given up on those newsgroups, but what you are saying shows that someone else does not know which else is up.
Also, does this belong here?

If I were you I would stop using those newsgroups.

it is very interesting to look at other newsgroup. I try to help, if I have an answer. But, I have been turned off by the newsgroups, not because of problems which I had, because the attitute of some of the users stinks.
At a certain point, there is no point continuing because it only feeds someone's ego.
And, all you have to look at the interminable threads. The incorrect posting is rare, but see how many people delete the part of the message which they don't like, also against guidelines.

The point is...
1. The posting guideline said "bottom post".
2. I followed the posting guideline
3. The result, I shouldn't have followed the posting guideline.
This just reminds me of the Mozilla.org's documentation is not accurate issue.
A recap of Mozilla.org's documentation is not accurate issue:
* the documentation of What's New in Mozilla 1.7 RC1 said: "A new set of icons for files that are associated with Mozilla."
* It was clearly not true. The fact: there were no new sets of icons in Mac platform.
* I then received a huge resistance to mention that.
So, seems to me, the very similar attitude - What is available in or apply to Windows platform simply means the default or standard?

Of course it is not acceptable, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it.
I post in those newsgroups to check if I can post there, (also to verify if I was banned.)
As for MozillaZine Forums, I am free to post there, just like I don't (and I can't) limit any SillyDog701 members not to post somewhere else.

I have nothing to do with addendum to the Posting Guidelines.
You missed the main point, I followed Posting Guidelines, but ended up I shouldn't have followed it.
So I was "told off" politely?

interesting, but is that a newsgroup just for champions?
Trying to subscribe to news://news.mozdev.org , and it was what I received.

You can do both. Each of the two actions serve a different purpose. Unless you're saying you had no interest in getting it fixed. |
